Today, the MOHAN Foundation team conducted an organ donation awareness session at Meenakshi College of Nursing in Mangadu, Chennai. On March 20, 2025, Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, the Quality Assurance Officer, and Ms. Anood Jafar, an intern from Manipal University, visited the nursing college. All students were provided an information brochure and green ribbons.
The event commenced with an introduction of Dr. Hemal Kanvinde by the host, followed by a keynote address delivered by Dr. Fabiola M. Dhanaraj, the Principal of the college. The seminar was attended by 50 students and 5 faculty members. Subsequently, Dr. Hemal Kanvinde took the stage.
She initiated the session by showcasing a video featuring a kidney recipient who shared her experience pre and post her transplant. This provided a compelling foundation for the students. Dr. Kanvinde then proceeded to discuss the intricacies of organ donation, eligibility criteria, and fundamental concepts. She addressed common misconceptions perpetuated by films depicting organ trafficking, using specific examples to debunk these myths.
Two students then performed a role-play centered on eye donation. Dr. Kanvinde also emphasized the importance of grief counseling, highlighting its professional relevance for aspiring nursing professionals. The students who participated in the role-play received tokens of appreciation from Ms. Anood Jafar. Around 10 students and 3 staff picked a donor card.
In the concluding segment, Ms. Kavitha, a Transplant Coordinator with a nursing background, joined via Zoom and delivered a 15-minute presentation on the courses and career opportunities offered by the MOHAN Foundation, emphasizing their potential benefits for the students' future career.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks. It was a successful and impactful event, engaging the nursing students on the vital topic of organ donation.
