Mr. Gabriel Pereira, an Organ Donation Ambassador from the MOHAN Foundation, organized an organ donation awareness float at Carnival 2025 in Panjim on March 1, Margao on March 2, Vasco on March 3, and Mapusa on March 4.
The Carnival, which traditionally begins on Fat Saturday and concludes on Fat Tuesday, marks the start of the Catholic season of Lent. In Panjim, Goa’s capital, the festival commenced with a grand procession led by King Momo, who symbolically presided over the four-day celebration.
Across the four cities, the event attracted a massive crowd of over 40,000 people, with vibrant floats categorized into traditional, clown, sponsored, and club/institution sections. This year marked MOHAN Foundation’s second participation in the Carnival, using their float to promote the message "Donate Organs, Save Lives." Volunteers distributed nearly 2,000 flyers, and many attendees engaged with the initiative by taking pictures and scanning the QR code for more information.
Several prominent figures supported the cause:
• In Mapusa, Mr. Joshua De Souza, MLA of the Mapusa Constituency, joined Mr. Carlos Alvares Ferreira, MLA of the Aldona Constituency.
• In Vasco, Mr. Krishna "Daji" Salkar, MLA of Vasco Da Gama, was accompanied by Mr. Mauvin Godinho, Minister for Transport of Goa and MLA of Dabolim.
• In Margao, Mr. Digambar Kamat, MLA of Margao, along with Carnival Committee President Mr. Carmilo Barreto and Mr. Ulhas Tuenkar, MLA of Navelim and Chairman of Kadamba Transport Corporation, expressed their support. They joined King Momo and his Queen in holding a Pledge to Donate card, reinforcing the message of organ donation.
The floats in all four locations began at 4 PM and continued until 8 PM, spreading awareness and encouraging the community to support the life-saving cause of organ donation.
