MOHAN Foundation organized an Awareness programme on 18th February 2014 for the 2nd year nursing students from Cuddalore Government Hospital who were placed in RGGGH for two month training. Totally 55 students participated in the awareness programme.
The session started with the survey on Awareness & Attitude about organ donation. Later, Mr. Prakash K. Transplant coordinator, MOHAN Foundation explained the concepts of organ donation, myths about organ donation, who can be a donor, what is Natural/cardiac Death, Brain Death, difference between Brain Death and Coma, organs and the tissues that can be donated after Brain Death.
After that , Ms. Sunitha A. T, Transplant coordinator highlighted the nurse’s role in identifying and maintaining the potential brain dead donor. She covered Following Points:
She also explained the relevance of the donor card. All of them expressed their wish to pledge for the donor card by signing the form.
Mrs. Anjana Bindlish of Cadaver Transplant Programme addressed the gathering and explained about the organ allocation. After that Ms. Anandi, a student nurse came forward and shared about her views on organ donation concept. The tutor of the Cuddalore Government College asked the transplant coordinator to conduct another programme for next batch.

Can the organs be stored for more than one week and then be transplanted?
