The Declaration of Istanbul Custodian Group (DICG), in collaboration with the Network and Alliance of Transplant Coordinators of India (NATCO) and the Indian Society of Nephrology (ISN), jointly organized a Round Table meeting titled "Access, Justice & Autonomy in Transplantation in India: Voices from the Ground." The event took place on February 9, 2025, at Yashobhoomi (India Convention Centre), Dwarka, New Delhi, as part of the World Congress of Nephrology 2025.
The Round Table focused on critical issues related to access and autonomy within India’s transplant ecosystem. Its primary objectives were:
Ms. Jaya Jairam was invited to speak on "Living Donor Autonomy: A Recipient's Perspective." In her address, she highlighted the lack of adequate support and information available to donors, particularly vulnerable donors, to ensure truly informed consent. She emphasized the urgent need to eliminate financial disincentives and strongly advocated for legislative reforms to mandate these changes. She asserted that ensuring such protections would be the most meaningful way to honor living donors, as the success of the transplant program heavily relies on their generosity.
Around 70 Transplant Coordinators, Transplant Clinicians and NGO representatives attended the event.
