Sri Shanmukhananda Fine Arts & Sangeetha Sabha, Mumbai has over the past six decades played a unique role in the national integration and cultural synthesis of India. The sabha is the only institution in the country and possibly in the world that combines Fine Arts and Health care. The founders believe that community health has a major role to play in appreciating the finer aspects of art and culture.
The Ruby celebrations (40 years’ completion) were held on 23rd March 2015 at the sabha's auditorium with the theme “Celebrating Life”. The success of community health care revolves around five key players and awards were given to distinguished persons serving humanity through health care in these categories:
1. The Doctors
2. The Nurses
3. The Patient
4. NGOs in the field of Health care
5. Public Institutions under State's control who support the goals of “Health for All”.
As a patient bravely fighting kidney disease with will power and determination and still helping others patients with the same problem, Mrs. Malathi Venkatesan was chosen for this ‘Award to a patient’. Mrs. Venkatesan is a Trustee of MOHAN Foundation as well as TANKER Foundation. The Award carries a citation, a brass lamp and a cash award of Rs. one lakh. Dr.Georgi Abraham, Founder Trustee, TANKER Foundation and Trustee, MOHAN Foundation was also given the Award for helping the community through his work at TANKER Foundation.
Bharat Ratna Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India presided over the function and gave away the awards. Smt. Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chairperson - State Bank of India was the Guest of Honour.
