Masterclass on Making Effective Presentations - How to structure and deliver a Presentation to make an Impact

  • On October 1, 2022, MOHAN Foundation organized a Masterclass on “Making Effective Presentations”- a workshop in collaboration with Network and Alliance of Transplant Coordinators (NATCO). The workshop was supported by SBI Foundation. Mr Sundeep Kumar, Communication Expert was the invited faculty for the session.

     

    Sundeep has an experience spanning 42 years in the field of Communication, Brand-building and General Management. He spent the first 22 years of his career in advertising before moving on to head Corporate Affairs & Communication at Novartis Healthcare, SABMiller India and Godfrey Phillips. He has won several international awards such as India's first Cannes Silver Lion, The Advertising & Marketing Effectiveness (AME) Silver Award at the New York Festival and recognized by the International Advertising Association for his professional contribution in the field of advertising, marketing and marketing communications.

     

    The specific objectives of the workshop were to introduce participants: 

    • to deliver effective and engaging presentation to a variety of audience
    • to identify why do some presentations stay in your thoughts long after they have been delivered and why is it that you struggle to stay awake through some others?
    • What makes a good presentation?
    • How can you structure and deliver a presentation that will make an impact?
    • How to use Power Point more effectively?

     

    Mr. Kumar said, “becoming a better communicator and a better presenter are really important to be able to achieve your objectives in a more persuasive and in a more concrete way”. He then explained the importance of using Power Point Presentation in an effective way. Mr Sundeep explained the four components of a good presentation. 

    • Structuring a presentation – the tools and techniques
    • Delivering a presentation – tone of your voice, your body language etc
    • Making an impact on audience 
    • Handling questions – receiving feedbacks

     

    He emphasised on the quality of being a good listener to become effective presenters. He then explained the 12 ways to get attention with the help of short video clips of TED talks delivered by famous personalities: 

    • Provoke
    • Evoke
    • Shock
    • Tell a story
    • Be authentic
    • Quote
    • Captivating visual
    • Question
    • Use silence
    • Use a prop
    • Use humour
    • Imagine

     

    The workshop was a highly interactive learning experience for the participants.  The participants asked many queries. To name a few: 

    • How do I handle an audience that asks to finish the presentation in a short time?
    • Should we ask for feedback from audience at the end of the presentation?

     

    At the end of the session, the participants gained a good working knowledge of a good effective presentation.
