On March 6, 2024, MOHAN Foundation participated in the health mela held at the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Andro. The mela was a part of the Ayushman Bhavah Campaign along with different departments of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat, Imphal. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer, and Ms. Thoidingjam Udayini Khuman, Transplant Coordinator, set up an organ donation desk.
Prof. Kh. Lokeshwar Singh, Medical Superintendent of JNIMS, coordinated the health mela. The medical officer in charge of the PHC Andro Centre lead the team in making the necessary arrangements. The patients and family members attending the health mela visited the desk.
The team explained the basic concepts of organ donation, the waiting list registry in India, types of organ donation, brain death, and the importance of the family’s consent in this process. The stories of deceased donors were also highlighted to the visitors.
A few queries were solved by the MF team, and frequently asked questions (FAQs) on organ donation were also distributed. Later, a pledge registration desk was set up by the organising committee to facilitate visitors who wanted to pledge for organ donation instantly. The MF team briefly introduced the steps of registration on the NOTTO’s (National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation) website to a staff member of the centre.
