MOHAN Foundation participated in the 100 Kidney Transplant Celebration organized by Shija Hospitals & Research Institute, Langol, Manipur

  • On March 20, 2024, MOHAN Foundation was invited to the 100 Kidney Transplant Celebration organized by Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI), Langol, Manipur. Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer, and Ms. Thoidingjam Udayini Khuman, Transplant Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation, attended.

     

    Dr. Palin Khundongbam, Chairman and Managing Director, SHRI, along with the staff of the hospital, members of the All-Manipur Kidney Transplant Association, media representatives, and the first recipients of living donor, ABO incompatible, and deceased donor kidney transplants, were participants in the program.

     

    The participants were welcomed by Dr. Somorendro Paonam, Consultant Urologist and Transplant Surgeon, SHRI. During the program, Dr. Gulliver Potshangbam, Consultant Nephrologist, SHRI, shared her kidney transplant journey since 2016. Testimonial speeches were given by the first recipients of living donor kidney transplants, ABO incompatible transplants, and deceased donor transplants.

     

    As a part of the event, the “Shija Kidney Card” was launched, offering exclusive benefits to registered citizens with end-stage kidney diseases. During the speech given by Dr. Palin, he made a firm affirmation of expanding medical tourism to make Shija a center point for the north-eastern regions. He further acknowledged the meticulous planning and collaboration done by the team of MOHAN Foundation and Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat, in the cases of deceased organ donation. He highlighted MOHAN Foundation's efforts over the past five years to expand the state's deceased organ donation program, where the MF team's awareness programs contributed to the realization of this donation. He also mentioned the financial support received from schemes like Chief Minister Gi Hakshel Gi Tengbang (CMHT), Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), ANUDAAN, Transplant Help the Poor Foundation, and KETTO.

     

    Dr. Palin also stated that each transplant signifies more than just a medical procedure but a step forward in the institution’s mission to provide world-class healthcare to the people of Manipur and beyond. In the end, he summed up the preparedness of a liver transplant as a reality in Manipur.
