MOHAN Foundation invited to observe the 39th National Eye Donation Fortnight 2024 at Classic Grande, Chingmeirong

  • On September 6, 2024, MOHAN Foundation participated in the observance of the “39th National Eye Donation Fortnight 2024," organized by the National Programme for Control of Blindness & Visual Impairment (NPCB & VI) under the aegis of the National Health Mission (NHM), Manipur, at Classic Grande, Chingmeirong. Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer at MOHAN Foundation, represented the organization.

     

    The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh, Hon’ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Manipur Health Services, as the Chief Guest; Mr. A. Hungyo Worshang, IAS, Special Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Manipur, as the President; Dr. O. Sanahanbi Devi, Director, Directorate of Health Services, Manipur; and Dr. M. Dinesh Singh, State Mission Director, State Health Society, National Health Mission, Manipur, as the Guests of Honour. Dr. Ningombam Reagan, Ophthalmologist at District Hospital, Thoubal, served as the resource person. The event saw the participation of doctors, nurses, technicians, students from Yaima College of Optometry, and staff from the State Ophthalmic Office, Imphal.

     

    The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Vikram Singh Khoisnam, followed by the felicitation of dignitaries. During the event, family members of deceased donors were honoured for their loved ones' contributions to society. Their heartfelt testimonies touched the participants as they recalled the impact their family members had made through organ donation. The family members also acknowledged MOHAN Foundation’s vital role in supporting organ donation.

     

    Appreciation awards were presented to organizations and institutions contributing to the cause of eye donation and eye banking. MOHAN Foundation received an appreciation award, accepted by Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, in recognition of its significant contributions in initiating eye donation and eye banking in Manipur. Awards were also distributed to winners of the painting and slogan competitions, which highlighted the efforts of local school students.

    As the resource person, Dr. Reagan emphasized the need for administrative support for the Manipur State Eye Bank and highlighted the importance of teamwork among stakeholders to drive change. He also addressed common myths and misconceptions surrounding eye donation.

     

    Dr. Sapam Ranjan expressed his gratitude for being part of the event, noting that eye donation is a cause close to his heart. A proud eye donor himself, he had taken the pledge a few years earlier. He also commended MOHAN Foundation for its efforts to promote organ and tissue donation in Manipur.

     

    The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Okram Birbala, Ophthalmologist at District Hospital Thoubal and District Nodal Officer for NPCB & VI, Manipur.

     

    Approximately 120 participants attended the event.
