On 24th August 2023, organ donation awareness talk was organised by Mr. Jagdish Borude, transplant coordinator, MOHAN foundation at Air Force Station, 9 BRD, Vimannagar, Pune. The talk was coordinated by Mr AK Singh, Incharge, Air force station. The talk was organised on the occasion of 13th National Organ Donation Day.
The main aim of this talk was to spread awareness and sensitize staff of the Air Force station about organ and body donation.
Mr. Jagdish did introduction of MOHAN Foundation and its role in organ donation and its activities. Mr Jagdish then elaborated what is organ donation and body donation and the basic concepts in organ donation. There were 300 participants were sensitized. At the end of the session, Mr. AK Singh Gave vote of thanks.
Following topics were discussed on organ and body donation during session:
· Concept of organ donation and tissue donation
· Concept and definition of Brain death
· Types of death- Brain death and cardiac death
· Organs and tissues donated after brain death and circulatory death
· Why organ donation is important in India?
· How one can save lives of 8 people
· Body donation and its importance.
· Ischemic time of each organ and tissue
· THOTA act 1994 and its importance.
· How to take pledge as an organ donor?
Participants had asked following questions at the end of the Session:
1. Why green corridor is termed as " green" corridor and its importance in organ donation?
2. Can eye donation done after eye surgery?
3. Can cancer survivor donate organs?
