MOHAN Foundation invited for awareness session on organ donation organised by Urban Primary Health Center, Sagolband, Manipur

  • On September 28, 2023, MOHAN Foundation was invited for an awareness session organised by Urban Primary Health Center (UPHC), Sagolband, Manipur. Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer, MOHAN Foundation attended as the key speaker of the programme and Ms. Thoidingjam Udayini Khuman, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, accompanied her.

     

    The programme was conducted as part of “Sewa Pakhwada” campaign launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India. The key elements of the programme were OPD consultation, an awareness session on organ donation and the creation of an Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Babina Devi, Medical Officer, UPHC, Sagolband. The patients attending the OPD, and the staffs of the center were the participants of the session.

     

    Ms. Monica opened the session by explaining the kidney transplantation programme happening in the state of Manipur. She evaluated the concepts of organ donation and transplantation by asking few questions to the participants. Then, she explained the following points in details:

     

    - Organ Donation and its need in the society.

    - The challenges faced by the patients who do not have a donor.

    - The organ transplant waiting list & the issues of organ trading in India.

    - Types of organ donor.

    - The difference between brain death and circulatory death.

    - First deceased organ donation in Manipur.

    - Importance of family’s consent in the process of organ donation.

    - Process of pledging for organ donation in National Organs and Tissues Transplant Organisation’s (NOTTO) website.

     

    Thereafter, a short interaction session was held. At the end of the session, Ms. Udayini distributed Frequently Asked Questions about organ donation to all the participants for better understanding of the topic.

     

    Close to 45 participants attended the session.
