On September 27, 2023, MOHAN Foundation was invited to an awareness session on organ donation at Ayush Health & Wellness Centre (AHWC), Taobungkhok, Imphal West, Manipur. The programme was conducted as a part of Ayushman Bhava campaign organised by the office of the AHWC, Taobungkhok under the aegis of Directorate of Health Services (AYUSH), Manipur.
Dr. Surjit Singh, Medical Officer In-Charge, AHWC- Taobungkhok; Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer and Ms. Thoidingjam Udayini Khuman, Transplant Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation attended the session as the key speakers. The staffs of the AHWC and the citizens in the health centre were the participants of the programme.
Ms. Monica began the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation, its objectives and visions. Then she focussed on the following points in detail:
- Kidney transplantation programme in Manipur.
- Challenges faced by the patients who do not have a donor.
- The organ transplant waiting list & the issues of organ trading in India.
- The difference between brain death and cardiac death.
- First deceased organ donation in Manipur.
- Importance of family’s consent in the process of organ donation.
- Process of pledging for organ donation on National Organs and Tissues Transplant Organisation’s (NOTTO) website.
- Corneal transplantation & State Eye Bank (Manipur)
Dr. Surjit summarised the session and appreciated the pivotal role taken up by the MF team in the field of organ donation and transplantation. This was followed by an interactive session where both the speakers and the participants contributed to the discussion.
At the end of the session, the team of AWHC Taobungkhok thanked MF team for attending the programme and taking part in the campaign.
