MOHAN Foundation held an awareness programme on organ donation at the Out-Patient Department, Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Porompat

  • On July 11, 2024, MOHAN Foundation held an awareness program on organ donation at the Out-Patient Department (OPD) area of Urology at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat. This initiative aimed to educate the public about the importance and process of organ donation, ultimately encouraging more people to become donors.

     

    Prof. Kangjam Sholay Singh, Professor in the Department of Urology at JNIMS, initiated the idea and approached the MOHAN Foundation. He oversaw the coordination efforts for the program.

     

    Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, the Programme Officer, and Ms. Thoidingjam Udayini Khuman, the Transplant Coordinator of the MOHAN Foundation, led the session. They provided an insightful talk on organ donation. The team delivered information to different groups of people, each consisting of 8-10 individuals. The topics covered included:

     

    • The need for organ donation in society

    • Types of donations

    • India’s transplant waiting list

    • Facts and myths about organ donation

    • Corneal donation

    • The role of the Manipur State Eye Bank

    • Brain death vs. circulatory death

    • Organ donation vs. body donation

    • The story of deceased organ donations in Manipur

    • The crucial role of family consent in the organ donation process

     

    During the program, nearly 50 participants gained valuable knowledge about organ donation.
