  • On 12th September 2014, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ donation for B. Sc Nursing students at Smt. Laxmi Bai Batra College of Nursing, New Delhi.

Smt. Laxmi Bai Batra College of Nursing, New Delhi was established in 1987. The institute is affiliated to G.G.S Indraprastha University, New Delhi. Laxmi Bai Batra College of Nursing is approved by Indian Nursing council (INC) and Delhi Nursing Council (DNC). The institute is managed by a charitable Trust, Batra Hospital and Medical Research Centre. The establishment is aimed at training and producing professional nurses who can deliver quality healthcare. The institute provides practical exposure to their students, which helps them in acquiring in depth knowledge in the field of nursing.

The awareness session was conducted in the college auditorium where the students and staff listened attentively to the proceedings. The session covered key issues like need for organ donation, organ donation rate, brain death and myths surrounding organ donation.

The participants were not very interactive which was unexpected all being nursing students and this reinforces a greater need for prior sensitization sessions among nurses, para medical staff and medical professionals.

The session concluded with a thank you note by the college principal Prof. Usha Malik who stressed on the need for such awareness sessions and self-education on the part of the students themselves.

100 students and staff attended the talk and 57 donor cards were picked up.
