On March 25, 2022, a seminar on Organ Donation was organized for the students of Social Work Department. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance Officer and Ms. Preetha Baskar, Project Executive conducted the sessions. About 58 students from 1st and 2nd year MSW actively participated in the seminar.
The seminar began with a prayer song and a welcome by the students. Ms. Preetha Baskar commenced the session with a talk on Organ Donation. She elucidated about the concepts, statistics, myths and importance of organ donation. A donor story and a recipient story was told at the end of the session.
A video explaining brain stem death was screened to emphasize the concept of brain stem death.
Dr Hemal Kanvinde narrated an inspiring story of Ms. Jaya Jairam, a kidney recipient and used it to explain salient aspects of counseling of organ failure patients. This session was followed by a briefing of Transplant Coordinators training courses offered by MOHAN foundation.
The session ended after a Quiz program. All the participants pledged for organ donation and took up the donor card.
Discussion was on the why the need to inform the family of your pledge, the high costs of transplant and how it can be reduced, why is not as popular as blood donation and how that can they help to spread awareness on Organ Donation. The seminar ended with a vote of thanks by a student.
