  • On 4th August, 2016, MOHAN Foundation was invited by the student volunteers and their coordinator, Mrs. Preeti Rao, to conduct an awareness session on Organ Donation for the Bachelor of Mass Media (BMM) students.

Mrs. Jaya Jairam began the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation and its activities. She explained what Organ Donation entailed and then talked about Organ Transplants. She highlighted the need for viable organs and India’s current Organ Donation rate. She went on to explain how brain stem death differs from cardiac death, what the certification procedures involved and cultural and religious barriers and beliefs relating to organ donation were also discussed in detail.

Mrs Jairam also spoke on how she herself had been blessed with this Gift of Life, which has led her to associate herself with the cause.

The students had specific queries on how transplantation works and on Organ Donation which she duly answered and they were then shown a three minute video on the importance of Organ Donation as a Gift of Life. They were given information brochures and were told to discuss this with their parents. Subsequently, some of them have pledged their organs.

The students performed a small skit on the importance of Organ Donation; some changes were suggested and the students took heed of the valuable input. The student volunteers plan to conduct an awareness drive in partnership with MOHAN Foundation, at 8 locations within Mumbai. At each location, each group will have some students holding up banners to attract public attention while others perform the skit. Thereafter they plan to talk to the general public and invite them to sign up.

We greatly appreciate the enthusiastic and energetic volunteers of the BMM faculty. We also convey our sincerest thanks to Mrs.Preeti Rao for extending strong support to the cause and inspiring her students to lead with this initiative.
