On 18th November, 2017 MOHAN Foundation Mumbai was invited by Mr. Ranjit Pingle and Mr. Shamkumar Singh of 1MAH Air Squadron NCC Unit to conduct an organ donation awareness for its NCC Cadets as part of the NCC Camp held at Neral, Maharashtra.
After sharing a brief introduction about MOHAN Foundation and its activities, Mr. Amit Shenoy spoke about what is Organ Donation, why is it needed, who can be donors and the process of how organ donation and transplantation is done. He also discussed the various barriers, myths and facts relating to organ donation. He went on to share his father’s story and he decided to work towards furthering the cause of organ donation after his father underwent a liver transplant an year ago.
A lot of queries were asked regarding the process of organ donation as well as the process of registration on the waiting list. Mr. Amit Shenoy and Ms. Vaidehi Patil answered all the queries to the satisfaction of the cadets.
Out of 110 odd cadets who attended the session, 25 adult participants took the pledge to donate their organs; the rest being kids from Stds. VIII and IX couldn’t be allowed to sign the pledge.
Mr. Ranjit Pingle expressed his deep desire that such sessions be held by MOHAN Foundation in the upcoming NCC camps of the Army, Navy and Air Squardons and that he would put in a word for the same.
