MOHAN Foundation conducted a Continuing Medical Education seminar (CME) at Chettinad Super Specialty Hospital, Kelambakkam on 27th January 2017. The program focused on sensitizing the medical professionals on technical and practical aspects of organ donation and the legal implications that ought to be done when a brain death is certified and organ donation is possible.
Dr. Prabhu Mayakesavan the Medical Superintendent and his team of doctors including Neurologists, Surgeons, Anesthetists, Cardiologist, Nephrologists, Nursing staffs, Technicians and medical students participated in the CME which was conducted in the hospital premises. Nearly 100 staff attended the CME
Dr. Hemal, Q & A officer, MOHAN Foundation explained the 20 year journey of MF. This was followed by a video on Brain death testing and an explanation by Dr. Ramesh, Neurologist Chettinad Super Specialty Hospital. The Transplant law and Government orders pertaining to brain death, organ donation and transplantation was explained by Dr. Hemal. Ms. Sunita A. T. Transplant Coordinator deputed to Kilpauk Medical College, described the significance of a transplant coordinator and a critical care unit nurse in the process of organ donation.
Mr. Siva Shankar and Ms. Geethu Jose of MOHAN Foundation assisted the gathering. It was a great success as around 90 staff of the hospital acquired the Donor Card.
The discussion was on the use of EEG and CT scan for determination of brain death and on paediatric cases. MOHAN Foundation thanks Dr. Prabhu Mayakesavan for the invitation and Mr. Joshua for organising the CME.
