On 1st July, 2017, MOHAN Foundation Mumbai was invited by Dr Swapna Jagdale of National Integrated Medical Association, Kalyan Branch and Mr Nagarajan Iyer of Giants Group – Kalyan Metro to present a talk on organ donation awareness for fellow doctors on the occasion of Doctor’s Day at Isha Netralaya, Kalyan. The programme was jointly organized by MOHAN Foundation Mumbai and Gaints Group of Kalyan Metro.
After sharing a brief introduction about MOHAN Foundation and its activities, Mr. Amit Shenoy spoke about what is Organ Donation, why is it needed, who can be donors and the process of how organ donation and transplantation is done. He also discussed the various barriers, myths and facts relating to organ donation.
He went on to share his father’s story on how he decided to work towards furthering the cause of organ donation after his father underwent a cadaveric liver transplant in July 2016.
Mr Nagarajan Iyer also went on to share his son’s story who succumbed to end-stage renal failure at an early age of 22 years. Mr Iyer, a life member of MOHAN Foundation is actively engaged in making people aware of organ donation in Kalyan and neighbouring areas.
A lot of queries were asked regarding the process of organ donation as well as the process of registration on the waiting list. Mr.Amit Shenoy and Mrs.Jaya Jairam answered all the queries.
Out of the 30 odd participants, 15 doctors pledged their organs for the noble cause of organ donation.
