On October 4, 2023, Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer of MOHAN Foundation, Imphal conducted a session on organ donation at the Ayushman Bhava campaign organised by Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC), Langol Tarung. Ms. Monica was accompanied by Ms. Thoidingjam Udayini Khuman, Transplant Coordinator, MF Imphal. Dr. Debina Chanu Athokpam, Medical Officer In-Charge, UPHC- Langol Tarung coordinated the session.
The campaign included creation of Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID, screening of non-communicable diseases, laboratory testing, distribution of medicines and awareness on organ donation.
Dr. Debina welcomed and introduced the MF team to the participants. Ms. Monica initiated the session by inquiring about the participants' knowledge of organ donation. She then explained the fundamental principles of organ donation and transplantation. The following subjects were discussed in detail:
• The importance of organ donation in society
• When and how does organ donation take place?
• Organs that can be donated during life and after death
• Transplant waiting list in India
• Difference between brain death and coma
• First deceased donation in Manipur
• How to pledge for organ donation
• Myths and facts about organ donation
At the end of the session, Dr. Debina thanked MF team for taking out time and delivering the talk to the public.
Close to 40 participants attended the session.
