On January 18, 2025, MOHAN Foundation, in collaboration with the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), conducted a sensitization session on organ donation and transplantation. The session took place at the Department of Dialysis, RIMS, Imphal, and was led by Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer at MOHAN Foundation.
The event was organized with the approval of Prof. Sanjib Singh Nepram, Medical Superintendent of RIMS, and Prof. T. Brojen Singh, Head of the Department of Nephrology. Ms. Chongtham Pritam, Medical Social Worker and renal transplant coordinator at RIMS, facilitated the session, ensuring its smooth execution and active participation by attendees.
Ms. Chongtham Pritam opened the session by emphasizing the critical importance of equipping healthcare workers with knowledge about organ donation and transplantation. She noted that such awareness is vital for enhancing the healthcare system's capacity to address the rising need for organ transplants.
Ms. Monica Devi then introduced MOHAN Foundation, outlining its mission and objectives to promote organ donation within society.
The session included a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation that covered:
• Types of organ donation and donor eligibility criteria
• The current status of organ donation in India and Manipur
• Myths and facts about organ donation
• Key differences between circulatory death, brain death, and coma
• The importance of the donor card
• Steps to pledge or register for organ donation
• Advances in organ transplantation, including hand transplants
Approximately 20 participants, including doctors, technicians, nurses, and health workers from the Department of Dialysis, attended the session. They actively engaged in discussions and gained valuable insights into organ donation and transplantation.
