On October 28, 2024, MOHAN Foundation conducted awareness sessions on body, organ, and eye donation at the Mongshangei Old Age Home and Kongba Senior Citizen’s Home in Imphal. Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer at MOHAN Foundation, led the sessions.
This event was organized as part of the International Day of Older Persons and a health camp initiative by the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, under the Swachhta Action Plan 2023-2024. The program was managed collaboratively by various departments, offering services in general medicine, ENT, physical medicine and rehabilitation (PMR), and clinical psychology. It was conducted under the supervision of the Medical Superintendent, with coordination from the medical social worker to ensure smooth execution and positive engagement with the elderly residents.
The primary goal of the event was to promote holistic health and well-being among elderly residents by providing free medical check-ups, medicines, and health awareness sessions. In addition, the program aimed to increase awareness about organ and body donation.
Sessions were held at both old age homes, where Ms. Monica emphasized the importance of organ donation and its impact on society. She explained which organs and tissues can be donated in cases of circulatory and brain death and shared stories of patients awaiting deceased donors. She also addressed the significance of body and eye donation.
Following the sessions, a one-on-one interaction was held with the senior citizens to provide a deeper understanding of the topics discussed.
Nearly 60 participants attended the program, engaging actively and gaining valuable information on organ donation and health.
