On December 9, 2024, MOHAN Foundation had the privilege of conducting an organ donation awareness session for the NSS students of Vedanta College at their residential camp held at the serene Ashtang Yog and Naturopathy Ashram, located in Grampanchayat Jhambilghar, Badlapur.
This session was part of an ongoing effort to spread awareness about the life-saving cause of organ donation. The session began with Ms. Sakshi, who highlighted the importance of tissue donation in saving lives. She discussed in-depth the concept of cardiac death and which tissues, such as corneas and skin, canbe donated to restore the lives of those in need.Following this, Ms. Prarthana Dwivedi took the floor and elaborated on the crucial concept of organdonation. She explained brain death in a manner that emphasized its significance in the organ donation process and shared which organs—such as the heart, kidneys, liver, and lungs—can be donated to give others a second chance at life. The session also focused on the legal aspects of organ donation, clarifying doubts and addressing the myths that often surround this life-affirming act. A total of 88 NSS students from Vedanta College, Kalyan attended the session, eager to learn and contribute to this noble cause.
Some of the thoughtful queries raised by the students included:
What is the recovery process after a liver transplant?
How is the body preserved after body donation?
These questions reflect the genuine interest and concern of the students regarding organ and tissue donation.
MOHAN Foundation is deeply grateful to Ms. Mansi Dixit, the NSS Officer of Vedanta College, for her support in facilitating this awareness session, as well as to the Ashtang Yog and Naturopathy Ashram for providing the space and opportunity to spread this vital message. Their efforts in supporting organ donation are truly commendable, and together, we are making a difference in promoting this life-saving cause.
