On December 11, 2024, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ donation for the citizens of Kshetrigao, Imphal. Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer, MOHAN Foundation, served as the key speaker.
The session was organized as part of Urban Health Sanitation and Nutrition Day (UHSND) under the National Health Mission program. Mr. Gailian Kamei, Transplant Coordinator at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal, coordinated the event alongside the JNIMS team. Additionally, postgraduate medical students from JNIMS delivered a health talk on anaemia, its prevention, and treatment. Immunization and vaccination services for infants were also provided during the event.
Mr. Kamei opened the session and invited Ms. Monica to continue. She began by introducing MOHAN Foundation, its mission, and its key objectives.
Ms. Monica provided an overview of living kidney transplantation in Manipur, highlighting the challenges faced by patients awaiting transplants without suitable donors. She discussed the demand-supply gap in organ donation, the critical issue of organ trading in India, and strategies to curb this malpractice.

• The difference between brain death and cardiac death
• Myths and facts surrounding organ donation
• The importance of family consent in organ donation
• Steps to register as an organ donor
Ms. Monica urged participants to spread awareness about organ donation within their communities.
Approximately 25 participants attended the session, gaining valuable insights into organ donation and its life-saving potential. The session successfully raised awareness and encouraged attendees to consider pledging as organ donors while sharing their knowledge with friends and family.
