MOHAN Foundation Conducts Organ Donation Ambassadors training - 35th batch

  • On March 08, 2025, a group of nine driven individuals completed Module 2 of the Organ Donation Ambassadors course. A Gratitude Workshop, an expert interaction, and a discussion on raising awareness were all included in the online program. 

    Dr. Hemal Kanvinde gave a brief overview of the training and expectations at the beginning of Module 2. This was followed  by Mrs. Arshiya welcomed the participants and after which each candidate gave a brief introduction about themselves.

    The second session was interactions with experts in the field of donation and transplantation.  The experts were: 

    1. Dr. Vaishaly Bharambe, VB Anatomy, Pune
    2. Dr Rajeeva, Nephrologist, Medway Hospital, Chennai
    3. Ms Mayuri Ghatge, Transplant Coordinator, Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital Pune 
    4. Mr Vikram Bansal, Liver Transplant Recipient, New Delhi 
    5. Ms Bharti Ranga, Kidney Recipient, Mumbai  
    6. Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi, Programme Manager MF, Delhi NCR and 
    7. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde Q&A Officer MOHAN Foundation. 

    Interactions between the specialists and the volunteer ambassadors were swift. Lifestyle changes due to organ failure, mental health and changes in life after a transplant. The role of social worker during the transplantation, grief counseling, how it affects the transplant coordinator, importance of two way interactions with the family  were part of the information given to the ambassadors. The transplant coordinator also shared her cases with participants. Mr Vikram Bansal  and Ms. Bharti Ranga  added how they  prepared themselves for the transplant. It was an good learning for the ambassadors. The professionals generously shared their time and expertise to clarify every subject.

    After that, Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi led the group in a gratitude workshop. She talked about the recipient's emotions and the donor family. She requested that the applicants write as though they had received an organ and wanted to thank the families of the donors. Following the trainees' reading of their letters, Dr. Muneet offered her comments. All of the candidates experienced intense emotion during the session. 

    The topic of the next session was how to raise awareness about organ donation. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde led this workshop and demonstrated the various ways to raise awareness, ranging from simple speeches and demonstrations to conferences, online platforms, and the use of art and regional culture to spread the word.

    The Ambassadors expressed gratitude for the feedback session and pledged to get started on their tasks. Additionally, they conveyed their desire to be associated with other ambassadors.
