  • On December 07, 2024, a group of nine driven individuals completed Module 2 of the Organ Donation Ambassadors course. A Gratitude Workshop, an expert interaction, and a discussion on raising awareness were all included in the online program.

Dr. Hemal Kanvinde gave a brief overview of the training and expectations at the beginning of Module 2, after which each candidate gave a brief introduction. Three ambassadors in training, were organ recipients.

The second session was interactions with experts in the field of donation and transplantation.  The experts were:

    1. Dr Indrajeet Tiwary, Critical Care Specialist Apollo Gleneagles Hospital, Kolkata

    2. Ms Bhavana Shah, Senior Transplant Coordinator Workhart Hospital, Mumbai

    3. Dr. Vaishaly Bharambe, VB Anatomy, Pune

    4. Ms Jaya Jairam, Project Director MF, Mumbai

    5. Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi, Programme Manager MF, Delhi NCR and

    6. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde Q&A Officer MOHAN Foundation.

Interactions between the specialists and the volunteer ambassadors were swift. The length of a recipient's hospital stay following surgery, the recipient's life following a transplant, and how the family copes with brain death in a hospital were all topics of discussion.

Other subjects discussed included the relevance and cost of immunosuppressive medications, the maintenance of the waiting list and the allocation of organs, the significance of family agreement for a donation, and what happens if the family refuses to provide their consent. New organ preservation techniques, marginal organs, and the requirement for consistency in body donation. The professionals generously shared their time and expertise to clarify every subject.

After that, Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi led the group in a gratitude workshop. She talked about the recipient's emotions and the donor family. She requested that the applicants write as though they had received an organ and wanted to thank the families of the donors. Following the trainees' reading of their letters, Dr. Muneet offered her comments. All of the candidates experienced intense emotion during the session.

The topic of the next session was how to raise awareness about organ donation. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde led this workshop and demonstrated the various ways to raise awareness, ranging from simple speeches and demonstrations to conferences, online platforms, and the use of art and regional culture to spread the word.

The Ambassadors expressed gratitude for the feedback session and pledged to get started on their tasks. Additionally, they conveyed their desire to be associated with other ambassadors.
