Mrs. Lalitha Raghuram, Country Director of MOHAN Foundation was invited by Rotary Clubs of Coimbatore, Coimbatore Central and Coimbatore Ikon for a public education program on organ donation. The program was held on 15th February, 2014, at Kikani School Auditorium, Coimbatore.
Dr. Rajasekhar Perumalla, Liver Transplant surgeon of Global Hospitals, Chennai, Mr. Netaji, Transplant Coordinator of Sri Ramachandra Medical University, Dr. Amalorpavanathan, Convenor of Tamilnadu Cadaver Transplant Program and Mr. Karunakaran of National Network for Organ Sharing, were the other guests. Prof. Parveen Sultana, a popular Tamil Speaker, was the Chief Guest, who spoke eloquently about the power of “giving”.
The first event was attended by around 1000 nurses from different nursing schools, and the second by about 600 police personnel. Mr. Netaji spoke about transplant coordination, Dr. Amalorpavanathan spoke about cadaver transplant program in Tamilnadu, Mr. Karunakaran mentioned about the legislations while Dr. Rajasekhar Perumalla showed videos on organ retrieval. Mrs. Lalitha Raghuram spoke about “Organ Donors – Real Heroes”, where she shared stories of six organ donors, whose donations were facilitated by MOHAN Foundation.
MOHAN Foundation was presented with the “Rotary Professional Excellence Award” by Rotary Clubs of Coimbatore, Coimbatore Central and Coimbatore Ikon, for their work in the area of public education on organ donation. The award was presented by Dr. Ajaya Kumar, District Governor of Rotary Club, District 3201.
