On September 21, 2023, Makkal Needhi Maiam(MNM), organized its second General Board Meeting at Kamarajar Arangam, Chennai. In the meeting the election result for the post of Party Leader was announced and resolutions were passed in the presence of MNM p arty members and to the press.
Since 2018, Makkal Needhi Maiyam and MOHAN Foundation are working together to promote organ donation throughout Tamilnadu. To honour this commitment, MOHAN Foundation was given an opportunity to organize an Information Desk at the venue. Mr Ganesh C, Mr Charan K from MOHAN Foundation manned the information desk at the venue. Mr Stephen Joy (intern), Chef Prasanthini (volunteer) and Ms Vaishali (volunteer) supported in distributing information brochures on organ donation and supported the MNM party members in pledging as donors.
During the meeting Dr Kamal Hassan was unanimously elected to be the leader of the MNM Party, and 16 resolutions were passed. Among the resolutions, one among them was “to create awareness on Organ Donation, Body Donation, Blood Donation and Eye Donation along with MOHAN Foundation, and to make atleast 10,000 people to pledge as donors”.
Over 1400 participated in the meeting, and 22 pledged as donors. An enthusiastic Liver recipient also shared his experience and journey of getting an organ from a cadaver donor. Few celebrities shared their thoughts towards organ donation.
