“Life Before Ashes'' Exhibition to Commemorate World Organ Donation Week

Updated on Tuesday, August 27, 2024
  • In a powerful tribute to the transformative impact of organ donation, Medanta The Medicity Hospital, in collaboration with the MOHAN Foundation, unveiled a striking exhibit titled "Life Before Ashes" at Medanta – The Medicity, Gurugram, from August 12 to 16, 2024. This unique installation, located on the UG Floor of the hospital, featured intricately crafted models of four vital organs—the kidney, heart, liver, and lung—all made from ashes.

"Life Before Ashes" served as a poignant reminder of the life-giving potential of organ donation. The art installation, created by the MOHAN Foundation, reimagined human organs using the ashes of the deceased, blended with mud. This hard-hitting visual conveyed a simple yet profound message: what now lay in ashes could have been another person’s heart or kidney if only the organs had been donated.

The initiative garnered the support of leading medical professionals, including Dr. Anil Bhan, Chairman of Cardiac Surgery at Medanta, Dr. Arvind Kumar, Chairman of Lung Transplant at Medanta, Dr. Rajesh Ahlawat, Group Chairman of Kidney Transplant at Medanta, and Dr. A.S. Soin, Chairman of Liver Transplant at Medanta. These doctors are passionate advocates for the life-saving power of organ donation.

The exhibition received widespread news coverage, with articles highlighting its impact and significance in publications such as BW Healthcare WorldBioVoice News, and Drug Today Online. These reports emphasized the unique approach of the exhibit in promoting organ donation and its potential to save lives.
