To mark World Organ Donation Day, August 13, Sreelakshmi. V, a grade 10 student of Our Own English High School, Sharjah, conducted online Poster Designing & Slogan writing competitions for students in UAE. This was to spread awareness about the noble cause of Organ Donation among students of UAE. The theme was Organ Donation “LIFE NEVER ENDS…” from August 13 to September 15, 2017 and was conducted in association with MOHAN Foundation.
According to Sreelakshmi, HOPE- Have Only Positive Expectations-a student team-started their journey in 2016 April, with some of her like-minded friends by addressing socio-cultural-eco related activities in the society and to give maximum exposure to students’ community to involve in such activities with the support and guidance of their parents apart from their busy academic schedule.
“There is no other Gift greater than Organ Donation” as stated by Sreelakshmi V, the best Gift anybody can give. We are all born with the ability to change one’s life with a smile. It is high time to create awareness among general public and students’ community about the need of the hour-Organ Donation. With the support of MOHAN Foundation, for providing certificates for winners and participants, the event received good response from the students. The competition was announced in 3 categories and winners were decided by an eminent panel of judges. The results announcement and certificates distribution event was conducted on 06 October, 2017, at ASAP Tutor, Sharjah with the support and cooperation by MOHAN Foundation volunteers Mrs. Vasundhara Raghavan, Mr. Giridhar Iyengar r and Mrs. Sindhuja Ram.
The event was made more interesting by 2 school teachers. Both the teachers inspired the students by giving some insights for time management and how to become Environment friendly and students should work hard and participate in programs and competitions not only to get rewards, they should be socially committed always and do things with passion.
Mrs. Vasundhara Raghavan shared her own experience as an Organ Donor and she also explained the importance of Dieting in our life. Mr. Giridhar shared informations about Organ donation-in GCC by their Sharia law, it was not allowed before, but now things are getting changed and in some other countries where it is compulsory after death of a person unless otherwise it is mentioned by one person that is not willing to donate his organs after death etc. Mrs. Sindhuja Ram explained about the activities of MOHAN Foundation and the importance of Organ Donation and had shown a video on MOHAN Foundation and explained with a powerpoint presentation. She also extended all her support and guidance those who needs in this regard.
It was an inter-active session with the whole hearted participation by students and their parents. The beautiful certificates designed by MOHAN Foundation were distributed to the winners and participants by Mrs. Vasundhara Raghavan, Mr. Giridhar Iyengar, Mrs. Tajunnisa, and Mrs. Anjum Hassan.
The following students bagged first, second and third places in the LIFE NEVER ENDS….online Poster Designing & Slogan writing competitions in different categories.
