International Women’s Day Celebrated by Conducting Organ Donation Session at Rani Durgavati Chowk, Nagpur

  • On 8th March 2021, on the occasion of International Women's Day, MOHAN Foundation in association with Transplants – Help The Poor Foundation conducted an awareness session for women on organ donation at Rani Durgavati Chowk, Nagpur. The session was organised by Mr. Aman Bharatdwaj (President) Fivefold Maitri Society & Feel Good Foundation NGO of Nagpur and conducted by Ms. Prarthana Dwivedi (Transplant Coordinator) 

    She introduced MOHAN Foundation as an NGO working passionately for deceased organ donation for the past 23 years. She explained the difference between circulatory death & brain death in-depth. Then she elaborated about the organs & tissues that can be donated by both the cases. She also introduced the public to new advances like hand donation. She explained about tissue donation (skin, eyes & bones). She then discussed organ donations that can happen in the case of brain death and the number of lives that can be saved by giving examples of successful transplant stories, articles and news about the green corridor. She then discussed about myths around organ donation that most families of deceased donor have and how to debunk them by explaining relevant facts.

    Lastly, Ms. Prarthana described the importance of discussing about organ donation within the family and to carry donor card always in purse or wallet. About 25 people attended session and 15 took the pledge to be an organ donor. Informative flyers were also distributed to the public and the gathering was invited for volunteering program.
