On September 13, 2019, MOHAN Foundation in association with Institute of Liver Transplantation and Regenerative Medicine, Medanta-The Medicity organised a guest lecture by Dr Mathew Weiss (Medical Director of Donation at Transplant Québec) on “Paediatric Donation after Circulatory Death: Current Recommendations and Practices” at the Seminar Room Medanta -The Medicity.
Dr Matthew Weiss is a paediatric intensivist working in Quebec City at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Québec since 2010 and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Paediatrics at the Université Laval. He is involved in multiple provincial and national donation roles, including Medical Director of Donation at Transplant Québec, Co-Founder of the Guideline Development Group (GUIDDE) at Canadian Blood Services and lead of Theme 1 (developing a culture of donation) of the Canadian Donation and Transplant Research Program.
Dr Weiss made a presentation on Canadian Guidelines for Controlled Pediatric Donation after Circulatory Determination of Death. He spoke about the trends in Pediatric organ donation, the ethical considerations, guidelines that are followed in declaring death and huge challenges in counselling the parents.
The talk was attended by over 30 senior doctors from critical care, anaesthesia, liver transplant and paediatric critical care. A lively discussion followed the presentation and information was exchanged on the organ donation scenario in both the countries.
Post the talk, Dr Mathew Weiss was taken for a visit to the paediatric ICU in Medanta by Dr Maninder Singh Dhaliwal, Associate Director Paediatrics.
