Giving the Green Light to Organ Donation Conversations

Updated on Wednesday, August 7, 2024
  • The Ripon Building is the headquarters of the Greater Chennai Corporation in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Situated near the Chennai Central railway station, this all white  structure,  is an example of neoclassical architecture, a combination of Ionic and Corinthian styles.

This  iconic Ripon Building in Chennai was illuminated in bright green on Aug 3, 2024 to celebrate India’s National Organ Donation Day, and to raise awareness about the cause of organ donation. On this day  we pay tribute to the 1,817 selfless organ donors from Tamil Nadu and extend our heartfelt gratitude to their families for their incredible generosity.

Green colour symbolizes hope for those awaiting a second chance at life through transplantation. It serves as a poignant reminder of the men, women, and children who have died waiting for a life-saving organ and expresses gratitude to organ donors and their families for giving the supreme gift of life.

We hope to inspire more individuals to pledge their organs and provide the gift of life to those in need.  Presently, more than a million Indians suffer from end-stage organ failure, with less than 10% receiving timely help.

MOHAN Foundation thanks  Shri J. Kumaragurubaran, I.A.S., Commissioner of Greater Chennai Corporation and the staff for making this possible.
