Maj. Gen. R. P. Choubey (Retd), Director Andaman & Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences, Port Blair visited MOHAN Foundation on 30th June 2016. He was in Chennai for the ROTTO-SOTTO national level meeting called by NOTTO (National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation).
He addressed the members of Care and Welfare Association, who had come to MOHAN Foundation for an organ donation awareness session. All the members of the association are blood donors. He congratulated them for undertaking this lifesaving cause and for pledging their support to organ donation.
Maj. Gen. Chaubey initiated the liver transplant programme in Army Research & Referral Hospital, New Delhi and sent personnel to the UK for training. In the Andamans, he said that they first need to start with eye donation. He wanted to send ophthalmic assistants to Chennai for training in eye/cornea retrieval and start a corneal transplant programme. The medical college there was started last year with an intake of 100 students. Whole body donation has just started (unclaimed bodies).
Dr. Sumana Navin, Course Director and Ms. Sujatha Suriyamoorthi, Manager - Information Systems briefed him about MOHAN Foundation and its activities. He expressed his appreciation for the work that was being done by the Foundation.
