On November 4, 2017 MOHAN Foundation hosted a consultative meeting for a select group of intensive care specialists from across the country. The aim was to brainstorm on how to create a platform to impart effective training to ICU staff on brain death and organ donation. The meeting was held at The Pride Hotel.
Close to 15 senior intensive care specialists participated in the meeting from Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad.
The workshop began with Dr. Sunil Shroff addressing the group and giving them a brief overview of deceased organ donation and transplantation in India. He then explained that the workshop would train ICU doctors and staff about the key issues related to organ donation. The focus areas would be:
Videos on Brain Death testing, ABG Analysis and on Counselling were screened. After this, Dr Vijayanand Palaniswamy addressed the group to take them through the workshop format. The main aim was to build a team of experts who could train across the country and test the various activities in the workshop module developed by Dr. Vijayanand. The activities were tested by the participants followed by a discussion on the positives and negatives of the activity.
