Charity Golf Event in Chennai: A Drive to Transform Lives through Organ Donation

  • A charity golf tournament was organized by MOHAN Foundation (a non-profit promoting organ donation awareness) and the Rotary Club of Madras Next Gen, aimed to support both organ donation and the education of underprivileged children.

    Held on September 13, 2024, the venue Cosmo TNGF Golf Course in Chennai buzzed with energy as golf enthusiasts gathered for a noble cause. MOHAN Foundation has been pioneering the cause of Organ Donation since 1997.  Rotary Club of Madras Next Gen has been working closely with the Greater Chennai Corporation to improve the learning experience of students in Chennai Schools.  The tournament was organised to support and raise funds for the work of these two NGOs.

    It was a well-attended tournament with the participation capped at 100 players. 6 players were from outstation. Special invitees for the tournament were two organ recipients: Mr. Amit Prasada, a liver transplant recipient, and Mr. Karhun Nanda, a heart transplant recipient. They had travelled from New Delhi and served as a powerful reminder of how organ transplantation (the medical procedure of transferring organs from a donor to a recipient) can save and transform lives.  Mr.  Sundar K. was the Tournament Director.    Members of Rotary Club, Mr. Alok Bhargava, Mr. Akhil Murthi and Mr. Aditya Bhargava and senior members of TNGF Mr. S. Kumar and Mr. Ravi Lakshmanassited in the compilation of results and in conducting the prize distribution ceremony.  The event could not have been run smoothly without their helpful inputs. 

     

    Format for the tournament was Four-Ball Better-Ball (a popular golf team game where the better score of two partners counts for each hole). With tee off at 12.45 pm everyone went to their tee and after playing the 18 holes they returned by 5.30 pm.  The results were announced by Mr K. Sundar.

    Team Winners: Dr. S. Venkatesh and S. Stalin Joseph

    Best individual gross score:  Mr. Aniruda Srikanth

    Best individual net score:  Mr. Sriram Ananth

    1st runners Up Team: Suman Ranjeet and Murigesan V,

    2nd Runners Up Team: Pattabi G and Padmanabhan S.

    Closest to the pin on 4th Hole: A. Ramakrishnan

    Longest Drive at 18th Hole: Ashwin Thomas 

    Straight Drive on 14th Hole: D Venkatachalam.

     

    Apart from these trophies there was a fun lucky dip with prizes of tap nozzles, shoe kits and Bridlen shoes.

    Two remarkable organ donation ambassadors, school girls, Ms. Krisha Toshniwal and Ms. Sanika Bihani, were honoured for their tireless efforts in spreading awareness about organ donation. The tournament was supported by Apollo Hospitals, Chola MS, Globe Links, and TANKER Foundation, Taj Sky View Hotel and Residences, Lanson Toyota, Doodle Blue, Prosperity Wealth management and Satya Jyoti Films, among other esteemed organizations.

    The evening ceremony was graced by speeches from Dr. Sunil Shroff, Managing Trustee of MOHAN Foundation, and Mr. Yash Palsani, President of the Rotary Club of Madras Next Gen who commended the participants and supporters for their contribution to this life-saving cause. MOHAN Foundation appreciates the efforts of the Management and Staff of Cosmo TNGF Golf Course for their efforts in making this event a success.
