Brain death sensitization programme for nurses at PSG Hospitals, Coimbatore

Updated on Wednesday, March 28, 2012
  • A sensitization programme on brain death and organ donation was conducted for the nurses of PSG Hospitals, Coimbatore on 28th March 2012. This is an ongoing programme in PSG Hospitals given the fact that nurses are closely involved in many aspects of patient care.

Every Wednesday the nurses attend a Continuous Education Programme and this week about fifty nurses participated in the session.  A video on brain death identification, maintenance and certification was screened for the nurses. All of them watched the movie carefully and took notes on the tests demonstrated in the video. Later it was decided that the video would be played in all the upcoming continuous education programmes for the nurses.

Information about the MOHAN Foundation website was given and downloading of donor card online was explained to the nurses. Special emphasis was also placed on the importance of understanding brain death and the effective ways of maintaining a brain dead organ donor. This step is crucial in the process of organ donation, which gives a second chance at life to people who are desperately in need of it.
