On May 13, 2023, the Module 2 of the Batch 23 of Organ Donation Ambassadors training conducted online. There were 8 trainees and from the MOHAN Foundation the trainees were Dr Hemal Kanvinde and Dr Muneet Kaur Sahi.
The first sessions about self-introduction, this teams’ trainees comprised of three doctors and one nurse and two independents, one was a liver transplant recipient. The next session was interactions with different stakeholders like clinicians, transplant coordinators, recipients, and process experts.
The experts were Dr. Sanjeev Nair, Consultant nephrologist, Madras Medical Mission Hospital, Chennai, Ms. Jaya Jairam, MOHAN Foundation Mumbai, Mrs. Kavitha Aneesh, Transplant Coordinator, Chennai. The trainees asked many questions relating to training aspects, organ allocation criteria, religious beliefs, financial aspects of transplant costs, Life before Ashes exhibition, pediatric transplants and complications, role of transplant coordinator and doctors in donation. There was a lively discussion for 60 minutes.
The next session was a Gratitude Communication workshop. Dr. Muneet conducted the workshop with tips on how to write a letter of gratitude to a donor family after receiving an organ. All participants wrote a letter and read them for the others. It was an emotional moment for a few of the trainees.
In the next session Dr. Hemal explained the different modes of communication on the topic of Organ Donation. She gave examples of awareness via talks, information desk, street theatre, social media campaigns and exhibitions, school and college projects and competitions.
The trainees then promised to support the cause and get in touch with local offices for future programs.
