Awareness talk on organ donation at Kalamboli Police Station, Navi Mumbai

  • On 17th August 2018, MOHAN Foundation Mumbai was invited by Mr. Galande, Senior inspector, for a talk on organ donation.

     

    Mr. Galandebegan with introducing the topic. He shared with the audience that just as we donate blood, we should also donate organs since it can save lives of many.

     

    Mrs. Jigisha Yadav introduced Mohan Foundation, its mission and objectives. She then asked the policemen who were gathered there, as to what came to their minds when they thought of organ donation. The responses were mixed - positive as well as negative.

     

    She then explained the concept of organ donation and types of death. She went on to discuss the organs and tissues that can be donated after cardiac death and after brain death, the concept of brain death, difference between brain death and coma. Various myths and facts relating to organ donation were discussed. Information about organ allocation, and distribution were also shared. Toll Free No of MOHAN Foundation was shared.

     

    Mrs. Jigisha Yadav also took the audience through the legal aspects, the actual role of police when MLC Brain death case comes. The police were familiarised with Forms 8 and 10 pertaining to organ donation. It was further impressed upon them that organ donation is a race against time and therefore the police approvals should be given without any delay.

     

    A few queries were raised, which were answered. Around 50 police personnel attended the talk.

     

    A few of the audience took the Pledge to donate their organs while some picked up forms for further signups. We thank Mr. Galande for inviting us and supporting the cause of Organ Donation.
