On 23rd November 2013, an awareness talk on organ donation was organized by National Service Scheme (NSS) in association with Muttom Grama Panchayath. The programme was held at Technical higher secondary school (THSS) Muttom, Thodupuzha. The THSS invited Mrithasanjeevani, Kerala Network for Organ Sharing (KNOS) to conduct the session on Organ Donation. The programme started with welcome speech was delivered by Mr. Shyju M, Teacher, THSS, Muttom, followed by Mrs. Sreekala V T, Principal, THSS, Muttom and Mrs. Sherly Agustine, Vice president, Muttom Gramapanchayath, addressed the gathering.
Mr. Aneesh P V, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, deputed to Mrithasanjeevani (Deceased Donor Organ Transplantation Programme) Kerala, conducted the session on organ donation. The main topics discussed were: What is organ donation, Importance of organ donation, Types of donation, Brain death, coma and natural death, Religious myths on organ donation, Activities of Mrithasanjeevani, KNOS registry, Importance of donor Card and How the NSS volunteers can work to promote Deceased Donor Organ Transplantation programme in Kerala.
Around 95 NSS volunteers and 21 teachers participated in the programme. At the end donor cards were distributed to the Teachers, all the teachers pledged their organs by signing the donor card. The programme ended with vote of thanks rendered by Ms. Shemla NSS, Volunteer, THSS, Muttom.
