Awareness talk on Organ Donation at Department of Anatomy, PIMS

  • On 12th September, 2013 an awareness session on organ donation was organized at the Department of Anatomy, Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Pondicherry. The session was conducted by Mr. Ananth R, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, Chennai.

     

    The welcome speech was delivered by Dr. Sivakumar, Vice Dean (PG) and Head of Department, Department of Anatomy, PIMS. Followed by a presentation made by Mr. Ananth. He covered the following topics:

    • Types of donors
    • Difference between natural death and brain death
    • Difference between brain death and coma
    • Organs that can be donated
    • Preservation time for the various organs
    • Importance of donor card

     

    There were a total of 8 faculty members from PIMS. Every member of the audience picked up a donor card.
