On December 16, 2023, MOHAN Foundation conducted a session on organ donation at the 3rd round of the Ayushman Bhavah campaign cum Health Mela organised by the Community Health Centre (CHC), Yairipok, in collaboration with the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat, Imphal. Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer, and Ms. Thoidingjam Udayini Khuman, Transplant Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation, represented the team.
Prof. Kh Lokeshwar, Medical Superintendent, JNIMS, coordinated the medical team. The programme also included the creation of Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) IDs and health cards, a health check-up, laboratory testing, the distribution of medicines, and raising awareness about organ donation.
Ms. Monica welcomed and introduced the MF team to the staff and patients who came to the health clinic. Ms. Monica initiated the session by inquiring about the participants' knowledge of organ donation. She then explained the fundamental principles of organ donation and transplantation. The following subjects were discussed in detail:
• The importance of organ donation in society
• When and how does organ donation take place?
• Organs that can be donated during life and after death
• Transplant waiting list in India
• First and second deceased donations done in Manipur
• Corneal donation and eye banking process
• Myths and facts about organ donation
• How to pledge for organ donation
At the end of the session, frequently asked questions (FAQs) on organ donation were distributed to the participants. Later, the team of CHC thanked the MOHAN Foundation for taking the time to deliver the talk to the public.
