On March 15, 2023, Thozhi, the Women’s Association of Income Tax Office, Chennai arranged a blood donation camp and information talks on Organ Donation and Stem Cell donation. MOHAN Foundation was given an opportunity to enlighten the staff on the Concepts of Organ Donation and Transplantation.
The session began with Tamil Thai Vazhthu (State anthem of Tamil Nadu). Ms. Aparna Rao, IRS (President of Thozhi women’s Association) welcomed the guests and introduced them to the audience. Mrs. Gunavathy. G addressed the gathering and highlighted the Importance of Organ Donation. Followed by Shri. Ravichandran Ramasamy, IRS (Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, TN&P) explained salient points of Organ donation and Blood donation and requested the gathering to learn well and decide.
Dr. Hemal Kanvinde (Quality Assurance Officer, MOHAN Foundation) was the resource person of the day. She started her talk on the concepts, law, myths, process for pledging organs and other relevant facts about organ donation, skin donation and eye donation. In the next session a testimonial video of recipient Ms. Sushma was played. It made the staff aware of the pre and post-transplant situation from a recipient point of view. In the discussion the points raised were: How does MOHAN Foundation know if a patient is brain dead? How can a patient register for a transplant? How much time is needed before a patient gets a transplant?
About 100 staff attended the sessions and were welcomed with a green ribbon and an information brochure. 6 IT officers pledged as organ donors and picked up donor cards. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms Bhaswathi Chatterjee Iyer, IRS Joint CIT.
