On October 23, 2024, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, an Organ Donation Ambassador for the MOHAN Foundation, was invited by the Vice President of the Rotary Club of Mhapsa Elite to lead an organ donation awareness talk for club members.
The session took place during the club's weekly meeting, where Mr. Gabriel shared his personal journey and explained what led him to become an organ donation ambassador. His motivation stemmed from his sister-in-law’s battle with renal failure, which required a life-saving transplant. This experience inspired him to educate people in Goa about the importance of organ donation.
During his presentation, Mr. Gabriel highlighted the significance of organ donation and encouraged Rotarians to share this vital message with their friends and family, emphasizing the powerful impact they could make. Through a PowerPoint presentation, he covered various topics, including circulatory and brainstem death, the processes involved in organ and tissue donation, organ allocation, green corridors, and how to obtain donor cards. He also discussed different ways to become a donor, such as scanning a QR code on the Foundation's website or selecting 'yes' for organ donation when applying for a driver’s license.
Approximately 20 Rotarians attended the talk, with four members signing up as donors. Informational materials on organ donation were also distributed. Rtn. Adv. Madhumita Narvekar (Vice President) and Rtn. Viraj Gaonkar (Acting Secretary) expressed their gratitude to Mr. Gabriel and the MOHAN Foundation for their valuable contribution to raising awareness about organ donation.
