On 31st January 2019, MOHAN Foundation, Mumbai was invited by Shri Prakash J. Lakhapate (Vice President of Jyeshtha Nagarik Sangh, Nerul) for Public Awareness talk.
Mr. Mukund P. Koranne (President of Jyeshtha Nagarik Sangh, Nerul) gave brief history of Jyeshtha Nagarik Sangh, Nerul. Two years ago Sangh started Rugna Seva Kendra (Patient Care). This Centre provide Medical Equipment like Hospital Bed, Wheelchair, Walker, Air Bed, Water Bed etc. about 30 types of equipment issued to needy patients of Navi Mumbai for free usage. He further stated that about 70 patients in 2017 and about 150 patients in 2018 utilised this service.
Shri Prakash Salunkhe (an invitee) shared his story about how he arranged the organ/body donation of his Father in Law after his death and explained the problems faced by him.
Shri Ranjit Dixit (One of the Founder Members of Rugna Seva Kendra) informed that all the members of his house took pledge to donate entire body.
Chief guest of the program Shri Ashokji Gavade (Ex Deputy Mayor of Navi Mumbai Maha Nagar Plaika) told that many patients die due to shortage of Organs. This shortage of Organs is due to poor public awareness about Organ / Body donation. Further he told that we should not believe in superstitions and people should come forward for Organ / Body Donation.
Smt. Jigisha Yadav (Member of MOHAN Foundation) introduced about MOHAN Foundation as an NGO working for Organ Donation for past 20 years and also shared their philanthropy. She explained that MOHAN is an acronym for “Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Networking” and shared about the Mission and Objectives of the Foundation. She explained the concept of Organ Donation, Types of Death, the Organs and Tissuesthat can be donated after Cardiac Death and after Brain Death. She explained difference between Brain Death and Death due to Coma. Also she explained the difference between the Organ and Body Donation. Various myths and facts about Organ Donations were discussed and information about allocation and distribution was also shared.
Around 200+ Senior Citizens attended the session. Mr Baban Shinde and his wife (living Organ Donor) were felicitated by Jyeshtha Nagarik Sangh, Nerul. About 100 citizens who took the pledge for Organ Donation as per ZTCC (Zonal Transplant Coordination Center) were honoured by issuing the certificates.
