Awareness Talk On Organ Donation at Akshay Pratishthan, Delhi

  • On May 09, 2014 an awareness talk on organ donation was conducted by MOHAN Foundation (Delhi NCR) for the social workers and members of Akshay Pratishthan and Aga Khan Foundation.

     

    Akshay Pratishthan is an NGO that was set up as a unique "experiment" in inclusive education. It now is supporting more than 450 children. Apart from education, Akshay Pratishthan is well known for its vocational training, medical care and employment opportunities. Ms Vaidehi (Executive Director of Akshay Pratishthan) had coordinated the session with members and participants from Aga Khan Foundation present there for an inclusive training session on healthcare and other related issues. The objective was to sensitize the members of Akshay Pratishthan and Aga Khan Foundation on the issue of organ donation and also help them understand the role of Social workers in this area.

     

    Mr. Amit Kumar, Program Manager (Delhi – NCR) MOHAN Foundation addressed the group.

     

    The session covered key issues like need for organ donation, organ donation rate, brain death and myths surrounding organ donation. There was an active interaction between the participants after the talk on various aspects related to eye and organ donation. One of the participant shared her views on Organ donation, Brain death and issues related to ventilator since she had worked in a hospital. The participants understood the importance of organ donation and also invited MOHAN Foundation for a similar session at Aga Khan Foundation in the coming months. At the end of the session important helpline numbers for eye donation and organ donation were shared.

     

    33 members attended the talk and 37 cards were picked up after the session as few picked up cards for their family members as well.
