Awareness Session on Organ Donation for Nursing Staff at Apollo Hospital's Induction Program, Belapur, Navi Mumbai

    On June 10, 2024, MOHAN Foundation conducted an informative session on organ donation as part of the Nursing Staff Induction Program at Apollo Hospital. The session took place at the Training Unit, aiming to educate and inspire the nursing staff about the critical importance of organ donation.

    Ms. Prarthana Dwivedi initiated the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation and outlining its objectives. She engaged the audience by discussing the concept of donation and transplantation, emphasizing the significant need for organ donation in India.

    Ms. Prarthana provided a comprehensive exploration of organ donation topics. It covered various types of death relevant to organ donation, including cardiac death and brain death, along with detailed explanations of procedures for both deceased and live organ donation, with a specific emphasis on brain death scenarios. Additionally, the session addressed procedures for body donation, aimed at furthering medical research and education. Ms. Dwivedi effectively dispelled common myths surrounding organ donation, presenting factual information to foster greater understanding and support among the nursing staff. Furthermore, the importance of eye and skin donation procedures was highlighted, underscoring their critical impact in enhancing lives through transplantation and medical research.

    The nursing staff, fully engaged in the session, enthusiastically participated in discussions and showed remarkable support for the cause of organ donation. A total of 24 attendees made heartfelt pledges to donate their organs, underscoring their dedication to saving lives. Special recognition was given to Sister Anuja for her unwavering support in promoting organ donation within the hospital community.

    The atmosphere during the session was charged with positivity and a sense of collective purpose among the nursing staff. They actively shared personal stories and insights, fostering a deeper understanding of the profound impact organ donation can have on recipients and their families. The interactive nature of the session not only educated but also inspired participants to become ambassadors for organ donation within their community. This shared commitment ensures that Apollo Hospital's nursing staff will continue to be instrumental in spreading awareness and compassionately guiding patients and their loved ones through the organ donation process.
