On 6th February 2019, MOHAN Foundation being NGO partner was invited for giving awareness about the Organ Donation at St. Xavier’s High School, Goregaon Mumbai as a part of Times Organ Donation Drive an initiative by The Times of India Group and Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute.
Dr. Jimmy Gupta held awareness session and introduced MOHAN Foundation, its mission, vision and philanthropy to the school kids. She began her session talking about the joy of receiving & giving gifts. Then she told about the needy people who are waiting for second chance of life as their own organs have failed and they can live only with the help of donated life saving organs. She explained the types of death viz. Cardiac and Brain Death and the organs and tissues that can be donated. She introduced the concept of Organ and tissue donation She elaborated the procedure about bone donation which was new topic for the kids. She also described that tissue donation (skin & eyes) can happen even at home which caught attention of the students. She also discussed about Organ Donations that can happen in case of Brain Dead case and number of lives that can be saved by giving the examples of successful transplant stories articles and news about green corridor which was not familiar to the school kids.
Dr. Jimmy lastly showed few heart touching videos about organ donation to the School kids so they can empathize the power of organ donation. Also school students were invited to join in our volunteering program and internship programs in future.
About 200 students with few teachers attended the awareness session. We thank Ms. Priya Mane (Principal) of St. Xavier’s High School, Goregaon Mumbai, The Times of India Group and Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute for inviting us and taking part in ‘Times Organ Donation Drive’ thereby supporting the cause of Organ Donation.
