Awareness Session on Organ Donation at P Ward of Apollo Hospital, Belapur, Navi Mumbai

  • On November 5, 2024, the MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ donation for the nursing staff of the P ward at Apollo Hospital, Belapur, Navi Mumbai. The session was led by Ms. Prarthana Dwivedi, who introduced the MOHAN Foundation as a not-for-profit NGO dedicated to promoting organ donation awareness.

    Ms. Prarthana provided a comprehensive overview of key concepts related to organ donation, including the differences between circulatory death and brain death. She explained the various organs and tissues that can be donated in both scenarios, such as corneas, skin, bones, and more. Additionally, she discussed newer medical advancements, including the possibility of hand donation.

    The session also highlighted the profound impact of organ and tissue donation, sharing real-life success stories, articles, and news reports about green corridors. Ms. Prarthana addressed common myths surrounding deceased organ donation and provided factual clarifications. She emphasized the importance of discussing organ donation with family members and encouraged participants to carry a Donor Card in their wallets or purses.

    The session was attended by 15 participants, including nurses, paramedic staff, and resident doctors from the P ward. All participants pledged their support for organ donation at the end of the session.
