On 31st May 2018, MOHAN Foundation Mumbai was invited by Mr.Ashok Rajput, Senior Inspector, for an awareness talk on organ donation, for the police personnel at the station at Nerul Police Station, Navi Mumbai.
Mrs. Jigisha Yadav introduced MOHAN Foundation and spoke about its missions and objectives.
She explained to them the concept of organ donation, types of death, the organs and tissues that can be donated after cardiac death and after brain death, the concept of brain death, difference between brain death and coma. Myths and facts related to organ donation were discussed. Information about organ allocation and distribution were also shared.
Mrs. Jigisha Yadav went on to explain to them the legal aspects, the actual role of police when Brain death occurs in Medico Legal cases. They were given copies of Forms 8 and 10 from the THOA (Transplantation of Human Organs Act). It was highlighted to them as to how time was of essence in case any requests were to come to them from the hospital, for their approval for retrieval. It was explained to them as to how organ donation is a race against time and the procedures for approvals must be acted upon as early as possible.
Around 34 police personnel attended the session. Some doubts were raised and they were satisfactorily answered by Mrs. Jigisha Yadav. Some picked up forms for further signups.
